Appreciative Inquiry

5 Ds of Appreciative inquiry

1. Defining an Affirmative Topic around a real-world problem, issue or opportunity.

2. Discovering and celebrating what works well

3. Dreaming about and envisioning solutions in the ideal world.

4. Designing and innovating new ways of working and being together

5. Delivering and implementing projects with renewed energy and commitment

Appreciative Inquiry or AI is positive about people and is action-oriented.  It leads people through a series of constructive conversations building on the best of what is and engaging people's imagination and enthusiasm to make a difference concerning what needs to be done next. As such it is a blend of participatory action research, strategic  review, team capacity-building and organisational learning.

There are numerous exciting applications in educational settings: positive approaches to school improvement planing and self-evaluation, stakeholder engagement with governors, parents and community, more productive staff meetings, special educational needs and inclusion, Every Child Matters inter-agency collaboration, one-to-one coaching etc
